Pregnancy is such a beautiful journey and it deserves to be captured in a way that feels timeless, intimate, and empowering. If you’re considering an in-studio maternity session, or you’ve already booked one (yay!), this post will walk you through exactly what to expect, from prep to final photos.

Why Choose an In-Studio Maternity Session?

While outdoor sessions offer natural light and scenic backdrops, in-studio sessions give us more control over lighting, temperature, and mood. Whether you’re going for classic and minimal, soft and romantic, or bold and dramatic, the studio setting allows us to tailor the entire experience to your style and comfort.

Before the Session

Once your session is booked, you’ll receive a guide with tips on how to prepare. We’ll chat about your vision, wardrobe, and any must-have shots. If you’re not sure what to wear—don’t worry! I’ve got a client wardrobe available with stunning maternity gowns, or I can help you choose from your own closet. We’ll also talk about hair and makeup, whether you want to keep things natural or go glam.

Ideal timing for your maternity session is between 28–34 weeks, when your bump is beautifully round, but you’re still feeling relatively comfortable.

The Studio Experience

When you arrive, the studio will be set up and ready for you—calm, cozy, and private. We’ll ease into the session at your pace. Whether it’s your first pregnancy or your fourth, this time is all about celebrating you.

I’ll guide you through natural, flattering poses that highlight your shape and connection with baby. If your partner or children are joining, we’ll include them too—because this season of life is just as special for the whole family.

Expect a mix of posed and candid shots, and plenty of time for outfit changes if you’d like different looks. The vibe is relaxed and encouraging—I’m here to make you feel confident and beautiful every step of the way.

A Few Extra Tips:

Bring your favourite pieces of jewelry or sentimental items (ultrasound photo, baby shoes, etc.) to personalize your session.

Don’t stress about posing or being “camera ready”—that’s my job! Just show up and enjoy the experience.

Hydrate and eat a little something beforehand to keep your energy up.
