If you’re expecting a baby (congratulations, by the way! ), you’re probably already thinking about all the things you want to do before your little one arrives. And somewhere in that mental checklist is likely this question: When should I book my maternity and newborn photos?
Short answer? Sooner than you think.
But here’s the even better question: Why not book them together?
Let’s talk about why bundling your maternity and newborn sessions just makes sense—for your sanity, your schedule, and your future self.

1. Consistency, Savings, and Connection: The Magic of Bundling
When you book your maternity and newborn photography sessions as a package, you’re getting more than just two sets of beautiful images. You’re setting yourself up for a smoother, more cohesive experience and creating a visual story that connects your bump to your baby.
Here’s what that actually means:
Consistency in style and storytelling.
Same photographer, same aesthetic, same cozy, calm energy. Your photos will feel like they belong together, because they do. That way, when you print your album or hang photos on your wall, everything flows.
Savings that make sense.
Let’s be real: prepping for a new baby comes with allll the expenses. Most photographers (myself included!) offer a special rate when you book both sessions together. It’s a little thank you for committing to the journey with me.
Relationship-building with your photographer.
You’ll already have met me, know how I work, and feel comfortable by the time your newborn session rolls around. And when you’re a few days postpartum, that familiarity? It’s priceless.
2. Timing Matters (And It’s Sooner Than You Think)
A lot of families wait until the third trimester to think about photos, but here’s the truth:
Booking early gives you the best options.
Maternity sessions are best scheduled between 28–36 weeks, when your bump is beautifully round but you’re still feeling (relatively) mobile and comfortable. Newborn sessions are typically done in the first 7–10 days after birth, when babies are still super sleepy and snuggly.
When you book both at once, we can:
- Plan ideal timing for each session
- Build in flexibility around your due date
- Ensure your spot on my calendar during a very popular season
It’s one less thing to scramble about later, and honestly, you’ll thank yourself when you’re deep in nesting mode or newborn fog.
3. What It Actually Looks Like: A Peek Behind the Scenes
Here’s how a Bump to Baby experience typically flows with me:
Step 1: Planning & Booking
Once you reach out, we chat about your due date, your preferences, and what kind of session vibe you’re dreaming of. You choose a package that fits, and we pencil in both sessions on the calendar (with wiggle room, of course).
Step 2: Maternity Session
We meet at a beautiful outdoor location or cozy indoor spot (in-home or in-studio, your choice!) around 30–32 weeks. I guide you through gentle posing, make space for partners or kiddos to join, and help you feel completely at ease.
Step 3: Newborn Session
Once baby arrives, we finalize your newborn date and I come to you (or welcome you into my studio). I keep things calm, baby-led, and flexible. You can relax knowing that I’ve got everything covered, and that I already know your style.
Step 4: The Reveal
After both sessions, you’ll receive a gallery of fully edited images that tell your story. Whether you choose to build an album, order framed prints, or simply share your favourites online, you’ll have a collection that reflects this incredible chapter of your life, from belly to baby.
